Integrated Youth Strategy

.

The Integrated Youth Strategy is about promoting effective joint working with a range of key partners to raise aspirations and attainment of children and young people. It brings together a range of service areas to plan, design and subsequently deliver improved quality services for all young people in the city.

We will also undertake continual review to ensure that the all partners continue to improve the impact of their work on service users. Integrated Youth Strategy 2007- 2009 (Draft) (pdf, 258.7kb)

Underpinned and supported by government legislation and guidance as well as a local assessment of needs, the IYS focuses on increased participation of children and young people.

How is the IYS Managed?

Although substantial preparatory work had already been undertaken to develop action plans to deliver the universal, targeted and specialist support services to young people as set out in the IYS; the Children’s Service Directorate Programme Board (CSDPB) felt that individual projects would benefit from sitting within a wider programme of activity and management through the formal processes set out in the Newcastle Project Management Framework (NPMF2).

The Newcastle Integrated Youth Services Transformation Programme Board manages four discrete projects:

  • Targeted Youth Support
  • Positive activities
  • Volunteering
  • The Transformation of Newcastle Youth Service
  • Information, Advice and Guidance

In addition it oversees additional themes:

  • Participation and Engagement
  • Progression

The following provides an overview of the Integrated Youth Strategy Programme governance structure which reports to the Children’s Services Directorate Programme Board on a bi-monthly basis.

Key Responsibilities of the Programme Board

The existing Integrated Youth Strategy Partnership will serve as the Programme Board. Membership of this group has been revised to include the Programme Executive (Ruth Rogan, Head of Children and Young People in the Community); the Project Managers (as set out in the governance structure) and the Programme and Project Assurance representatives (some still to be confirmed).
