Child Protection

What is a Child Protection Plan (CPP)?

From 1 April 2008 Newcastle will no longer use the term 'Child Protection Register'. Where a child protection conference decides a child is at risk of significant harm the child will be the 'Subject of a Child Protection Plan. How are we supporting families in times of difficulty and crisis?

We have developed the 'Think Family' approach across the Children's Trust by building upon successful projects such as Changing Trax Strengthening families and Families Intervention Programme (FIP)

  • 17 additional multi agency practitioners have been trained to deliver Strengthening Families.
  • A dedicated team in the Initial Response Service provides support to families where there is risk of an adolescent being accommodated.
  • We have embedded the MARAC process successfully to address situations of domestic violence.
  • We have rolled out the Signs of Safety model across agencies to manage risk within families.
  • Community fostering has successfully supported more than 100 families with significant support needs. It provides family support, respite and day care to families in crisis.
  • The Children social care thresholds document, has been reviewed and built upon incorporating the risk indicators and embedded the thresholds within CAF and Safeguarding training.
  • Joint decisions have been made between police and social care regarding all Child Concern Notifications (CCN).
  • We have commissioned Parenting Early Intervention Programme (PEIP) delivery through Barnardos and Children's Services Partnership.
  • See Parenting Early Intervention Programme (PEIP)

BME communities

The NSPCC work closely with the City Council and the Newcastle Safeguarding Children Board has engaged with a number of local BME communities to support parents and carers through the delivery of safeguarding programmes.  the programmes are being delivered by trained volunteers from each community.
