The Children and Young People’s Workforce

The children and young people’s workforce (an estimated 2.7 million people in England) includes volunteers and people who work with children and young people all the time, or do so as part of jobs which also involve working with adults.

This is described and illustrated in the 2020 Strategy as the Core Children’s Workforce and Wider Children’s Workforce:

Core Children’s Workforce: People who work or volunteer with children, young people and their families, or who are responsible for their outcomes all the time.

Wider Children’s Workforce: People who work or volunteer with children, young people, and/or their families part of the time, or who are responsible for their outcomes as part of their jobs.

It includes managers and leaders, and those in: Education; Health; Social, Family and Community Support; Youth Support; Justice and Crime Prevention; Sport and Culture; and Early Years and Childcare.
