Exclusions

It is our priority to reduce the rate of permanent exclusions from school and we have increasingly challenged schools where the rate of exclusions is a cause for concern.

Newcastle's Behaviour and Attendance Partnership has now been established and involves all local authority schools across all age groups and the special schools.

The Behaviour Improvement Programme (BIP) has also had a significant impact on behaviour management and support in a number of secondary and their associated primary schools. Figures show that in BIP secondary schools there has been a reduction in the number of fixed term and permanently exclusions.

Secondary schools have also redesigned their curricula to reduce disaffection and disengagement so that young people can now access a variety of alternative education experiences.
