It is our priority to reduce the rate of permanent exclusions from school and we have increasingly challenged schools where the rate of exclusions is a cause for concern.
Newcastle's Behaviour and Attendance Partnership has now been established and involves all local authority schools across all age groups and the special schools. Â
The Behaviour Improvement Programme (BIP) has also had a significant impact on behaviour management and support in a number of secondary and their associated primary schools. Figures show that in BIP secondary schools there has been a reduction in the number of fixed term and permanently exclusions.
Secondary schools have also redesigned their curricula to reduce disaffection and disengagement so that young people can now access a variety of alternative education experiences.Â
