Planning for Schools and Building Schools for the Future (BSF)

What is the Planning for Schools Strategy?

Planning for Schools is a strategy for improving outcomes and educational attainment through sufficient, suitable, safe and accessible early years and school places in stimulating environments. The impact on children and young people of improvements to buildings and new additional facilities are:

  • Promotion of healthy life styles through the provision of accessible sports facilities
  • Provision of support for young children's development and family support leading to improvements in health and child safety
  • Improved school attendance and educational attainment in attractive, safe and healthy environments.

Building Schools for the Future (BSF)

The raising of attainment remains a key priority for the CityCouncil and the BSF programme has been engineered to achieve this goal.

Newcastle's Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme complements the Local Authoritie's already ambitious and successful Education Capital Strategy that has led to the delivery of major capital investment projects at seven of the schools providing secondary education in Newcastle. BSF represents the final wave of investment required to provide a network of fit-for-purpose schools for all pupils of secondary education age in Newcastle.

The BSF Programme agreed with AURA will have a transformational impact on the educational experience, achievements and life chances of all young people in the City. This transformation will be achieved through the provision of the highest quality buildings, support services and partnerships and it will secure the required outcomes of Every Child Matters.
