Think Family

Our aim is to improve the outcomes identified in the Newcastle Plan for Children and Young People by making Think Families the prevailing culture in Newcastle's Children's and Adults' Services.

It is a solution focused approach which places families at the centre. Building on existing good practice such as the work of Parent Support Advisors through schools and with homeless young people, parents of children with ADHD and participatory budgeting with children, we will extend the dialogue between service users and providers to design and promote services.

Through the Think Families approach, we will try to:

  • Secure timely support for families at risk
  • Work with families to find solutions to problems
  • Increase knowledge, skills and experiences of staff in public, private and third sectors
  • Engage and hold families at risk
  • Secure positive outcomes for local communities
  • Communicate what 'works' and why to partners locally, regionally and nationally
  • Embed lessons learnt and evidence their impact
  • Target families with parental substance misuse, domestic violence and mental ill-health
